On our first day back from break, I spoke to the Upper School students about making New Year's Resolutions. I shared with them my belief that there are two common mistakes people make when they attempt New Year's Resolutions. First, people bite off way more than they can chew: "I will cure world hunger tomorrow; I will be fit enough to run a marathon by next week." These resolutions, while admirable, are probably unachievable. I asked our students to think about small, achievable goals: make a new friend, get my effort grade up from 2 to 1; ask one question in every class every day."
Second, I told them that New Year’s is not the only time to make resolutions. The first Monday of the month, the day after my game, tomorrow—these are all fine times to make a resolution.
