Last weekend, Country Day hosted our annual girls and boys basketball tournaments, where 10 teams from around the area met for round-robin tournament action. I was so very proud of our teams—not just because they played so well, but because they worked incredibly hard, displayed unwavering sportsmanship, and supported each other as teammates and friends.
As a coach, I have often been struck by how misquoted Vince Lombardi has been. It is often stated that he said, "Winning isn’t everything; it’s the only thing." Actually, the real quote by Lombardi is: "Winning is not everything, but making the effort to win is."
I think that best encapsulates what GCDS sports do for our children. They are better people thanks to their coaches and the lessons they learn on the courts and the fields and on the ice.
Enjoy this short highlight video from the weekend.
P.S. The SportsCenter clip aired nationally on Sunday morning! :)
