This past week was truly a “game changer.”
For a seven-day period, just prior to and including the Thanksgiving Holiday, every Upper School student had no assigned homework. Instead, the gift they all received was the chance to choose a book that interested them from a list of over 40 titles (which Country Day purchased for them) and to have the time to read for pleasure.
In a world that is so fast paced, so technology driven, it was terrific to see our children curled up in corners or sprawled out in a hallway with a book in their hands. Yesterday, at the culmination of BOOK-A-PALOOZA, faculty and staff led book talks, and students had a chance to share their thoughts about what they read. It was so exciting to hear how much they enjoyed having the time to read for fun––and to see the book conversations spill into the hallways and the dining room was icing on the cake—not much more one could ask for in a school!
